Carlson House
Brisbane, Australia

The house on a small lot, along the foreshore of Moreton Bay makes a strong statement both at an exterior and interior level. The house is planned as two pavilions separating living areas and private bedroom spaces. A private courtyard space between the major elements are linked by a steel and glass stair and bridge. A large entertainment balcony faces the bay and flows out from the living areas as a seamless design.

The simple and economic palette of materials is industrial in its context and contemporary in its execution. Polished concrete floors, white walls, high ceilings, expressed steel structure create a restrained background to the impressive vistas of the bay which dominate the views.

The major functions are located at the upper level with the lower level predominantly given over to vehicles. The openness of the planning on the upper level enables views to the bay to be achieved across the courtyard from the private areas of the house.
