The project involved extensions to the heritage listed Gallery and Museum Building to add additional gallery exhibition space, provide public artist studio / teaching area as well as a dedicated administration area. The works sought not to alter the external appearance or function of the former Town Hall that is now the gallery. The new gallery wing provides a contemporary contrast to the original gallery and museum. Level changes across the site afforded the opportunity to elevate the new gallery with support functions being placed under and recessed from the façade above to create a floating effect to the new gallery wing. The lower level houses a dedicated administration area adjacent to the multi-functional studio space that can open into a terrace and courtyard for larger functions. The façade of the new wing is adorned with an integrated art creation by a local artist Margaret Worthington which depicting the environs of Gladstone. AWARDS: COMPLETION :
