The new Mater Mackay Hospital has been developed on an eleven hectare site as a two-storey 105 bed hospital.

It is a major building with great presence to the Bruce Highway heading north out of Mackay. The grounds have extensive river frontage and abut an adjacent residential area.

The hospital has been planned with 3 major components: A treatment / diagnostic block with open-ended planning for expansion of services (includes 4 operating room and endscopy suite); Cruciform two-storey inpatient accommodation wings capable of either modular or incremental expansion; A single storey medical centre capable of linear expansion
