The Westpac Trust Centre is a unique entertainment venue that maximizes multi-use opportunities for management flexibility with minimum capital cost.

All aspects of acoustics, roof servicing, sightlines, lighting, structural flexibility in the roof, were catered for along with directing capital expenditure, maximising the money earning capacity of the venue.

The Trust Centre is a 8500 seat entertainment centre currently under construction in the city of Christchurch New Zealand.

The arena contains fixed and retractable seating platforms to allow for a variety of events such as sport, entertainment, exhibition and conferences. (The Council has recently endorsed the inclusion of permanent pipework for an icefloor).

Through the use of retractable seating and division curtains, the building can be converted from a 4000m² exhibition hall to a 3000 seat temporary auditorium.

The roof structure has a clear span of 81m and a clear height of 14m under the fully serviced catwalk system. The fully mobile mother grid can be suspended in any position within the arena from suspension points at 4.5m centre.

The arena roof also has provision for a temporary 27 x 18m mother and fly grid for theatrical productions. The roof structure can provide a mother grid with 22m clear height and a 44m double or single purchase line set to a maximum of 45 tonne capacity. Depending on production sightlines, approximately a 3000 person capacity is envisaged.

The arena provides full vehicular access including semi-trailer. The back of house contains administration, stars' and performers' change rooms, holding venue, green and production rooms. Fully serviced workshops are provided to the arena store. A relay kitchen has been provided to interact with other kitchen facilities being managed by the same venue manager. The front of house contains fully serviced food and beverage outlets and spacious foyers and concourses for patrons. Separate lift access is provided for corporate box holders.

Peddle Thorp Architects assisted in the formulation of the functional Design Brief, won the project in a competitive Design and Fee based tender, designed the facility in Brisbane, assisted in the documentation in Christchurch and currently have a representative overseeing the construction phase and also assisting in the procurement of the FFE package (Furniture, Fitout and Equipment).
