With the design team making many visits up the Kuranda range over the last two years, we are excited to see the construction of the Atherton Hospital almost underway.

A much needed upgrade to the existing hospital, integrates the history and community spirit of the site in the design of the Hospital Precinct. Featuring a new Clinical Services Building, and a Community Allied Health, Mental Health Building and extensive site works, the redevelopment will provide the Atherton Tablelands community with a modern healthcare facility. The three levels of clinical services featured in these Artist’s Impressions will house Emergency Department, Medical Imaging, Maternity wards and Operating Theatre.

The history of the site has been reflected in the design language of the new buildings, with the community value of the existing Primary Health Centre (Old Nurses Quarters) building, being reflected in the brickwork band integrated artwork that wraps the main entrances of the Clinical Services Building. The old building form is reflected in the brick gradient pattern that symbolises both the past and looks towards the future. As well, the prominent archway motif found on site and throughout some of Atherton’s most prominent buildings has been incorporated in many of the design elements, including entrance archway, and sun shading screens.
