THE DETAILS

The Harry Gibbs Commonwealth Law Courts located on North Quay, Brisbane houses the Queensland registries of the High Court of Australia and the Federal Court of Australia; and the Brisbane registries of the Family Court of Australia, Federal Magistrates Court of Australia and the Administrative Appeals Tribunal. The thirteen storey, 32,000m2 court building sits prominently on the city edge overlooking the river and visible from major vistas from the southwest approach to the city centre.

The recipient of numerous awards that include the FDG Stanley Award from the RAIA for design excellence whereby the jury commented “Conceptual thought embraced a responsibility to provide a contextual work, honest in its intent and conscious of its symbolic importance - an opportunity to mark a point in time to express traditional values, cultural and social ideologies as well as provide a tangible representation of our judicial system. The presence and quality of the building, whilst clearly of its time, ensure its lasting value to future generations”.
