Peddle Thorp was engaged to masterplan Central Queensland University’s (CQU) Rockhampton Campus. Our process began with an in-depth asset audit of 39+ buildings, assessing their condition, usage, and future potential. We analysed landscapes, roads, and pathways, observed student movement and facility occupancy, and conducted workshops with stakeholders to align the plan with current and future needs.
Our masterplan streamlined campus-wide infrastructure, improving building and road layouts, enhancing pedestrian flow, and defining vibrant learning precincts. We provided a strategic framework for refurbishment, demolition, and staged redevelopment, ensuring a dynamic and efficient campus environment. The report outlined cost estimates, identified key risks and opportunities, and set a cohesive design language for future development.
One major outcome was the construction of the new School of Mining Building, also designed by Peddle Thorp under a separate commission. The masterplan transformed CQU’s sprawling site into a more connected, modern, and student-focused environment.
