FAST FACTS

THE DETAILS

The 62-year-old Gordonvale Library building has undergone a major interior upgrade and exterior face lift in order to meet the growing needs of the local community and the Southern Cairns catchment area. The upgrade of the building delivers a contemporary, more efficient, and more user friendly facility and service. Features include utilisation of the latest information technology, resources and library services – all accommodated within a contemporary venue.

Participation starts from the footpath where a new entrance canopy and imagery surround the book returns chute engages the public at street level and draws them into the building. Internally the layout suggests an open and inviting space, which generates a sense of curiosity and intrigue.

The Interiors reflect an appreciation of the regional landscape and wildlife, with the use of large scale imagery on selected walls. The reinvigorated library provides a welcome enhancement to the main streetscape of Gordonvale and is further confirmation of Councils commitment to their regional communities.
