The Denise Glasgow Performing Arts Centre brings to life a long-standing vision for the Pimlico State High School for greater exposure, accessibility and inclusivity of their performing arts programs. The project introduces an array of speciality learning spaces to the school while the intimate, accessible purpose-built facility is capable of playing host to the full range of artistic pursuits of the broader Townsville Community.
Flexibility is key to the internal layout, with 4 new specialists classrooms added to the school. These are separated with operable walls, that when combined create a performance venue offering seating for up to 650 people. An outdoor courtyard with seating and landscaping incorporates a mature existing tree.
A carefully curated palette of materials including brick, concrete, profiled metal sheeting and gold sun screening responds to immediate civic context and broader climatic conditions of tropical North Queensland.

We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia, their Elders and ancestors. We recognise the rich heritage and profound connection to Country of First People, including their influence on land, waters, sky and community as skilled land shapers and place makers, which has endured for millennia.
