QUT BUSINESS FACULTY BUILDING
FAST FACTS
THE DETAILS
The new Business Faculty Building at the Queensland University of Technology, completes the riverside edge to this inner city campus.
The building houses five major multi-level / multi-media auditoria, computer facilities, academic accommodation, administration and training / teaching facilities. The building achieved stratification of the diverse functions without compromise to any elements. The building was designed to service the academic needs of student education and also to be a conference venue for the business community.
The design integrates the pedestrian network of the university’s concourse level and creates a significant public space along this concourse with the integration of an internal atrium space. Particular attention has been given to the integration of the building within the broader context of its location with respect given to scale, form, texture and materials.
The asymmetric massing is balanced with the juxtaposition of the three main building elements: off-form concrete, brickwork and steelwork. Extensive sun shading devices provide shadow across the facade and provide texture and detailing.
