the next generation at peddle thorp

In 2026, Peddle Thorp formalises a Principal-led leadership structure, reinforcing our long-term commitment to employee ownership, sector expertise and studio-based leadership.

Under this model, five Principals and practice owners will lead the practice, as pictured below, left to right, Rebecca Johnston, Brett Hudson and Daniel Sorbello in Brisbane, together with Jacqui Sue Yek and Paul Whittle in Far North Queensland.

Collectively, they bring extensive experience across the Health, Education, Defence and Civic sectors, and have each played a significant leadership role within the practice over many years. Each Principal is a shareholder in the practice, and this structure aligns leadership responsibility with equity ownership — strengthening accountability, continuity and long-term stewardship of the practice.

The Principal model replaces the previous C-Suite and Senior Executive framework, establishing a streamlined governance model that reflects how we operate today — collaborative, sector-focused and closely connected to our clients and teams.

As an employee-owned practice, this structure ensures leadership remains directly engaged with projects, communities and long-term strategic direction.

Together, our Principals provide depth of experience across Queensland and the Pacific region, continuing Peddle Thorp’s legacy of delivering complex, people-focused environments that shape cities and communities.

As we move forward, we extend our sincere thanks to our clients, suppliers and team members for their support and patience during this transition time. We approach the future with renewed purpose and momentum under our new leadership team.

Acknowledging Our Colleagues

We also acknowledge several recent transitions within the practice.

Peter Gardiner and Caroline Yuen have entered retirement, each leaving a strong legacy of design leadership and mentorship.

Peter has since been appointed Queensland Chapter President of the Australian Institute of Architects, and we look forward to his continued contribution to the profession.

Caroline is now pursuing her passion as a full-time artist, with her work to be featured in the Architects Art 2026 Exhibition in early March.

Willem De Vylder and Davin Eggar have recently concluded their tenure with Peddle Thorp. We thank them for their valued contribution to the practice and wish them well in the next stage of their professional journey.

We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia, their Elders and ancestors. We recognise the rich heritage and profound connection to Country of First People, including their influence on land, waters, sky and community as skilled land shapers and place makers, which has endured for millennia.
